Most bands have a hard enough time just playing music to think of doing anything else. This is not a problem for the Heroine Sheiks; as much as they are a band, they are also a traveling theater, preaching to the down and out. On their new release, Siamese Pipe, they take the world and twist it apart and make you see life on their terms. Mixing slowdownlow grooves with keyboards (yes, keyboards), Heroine Sheiks create an eerie and mesmerizing soundscape. Over this backdrop, Shannon spins his tales about schoolgirls (“Little Schoolgirl”) and evil bosses (“My Boss”). By the end of this recording, you will either wonder what the hell you just bought or you will turn it up and come to terms with the cockroaches crawling around in your head. It’s bands like the Heroine Sheiks that make you want to be a freak and live on the fringes.
